Satellite internet may very well be the next big thing in internet technology. While most of us live in rather urbanized towns where DSL and cable work perfectly broadband anywhere satellite internet access can provide broadband connection to those who live in rural areas, as it uses neither cable systems nor telephone lines. Instead, it functions on a satellite dish, using two-way data communications, uploading and downloading. It's not as cheap as DSL or cable modems, but it provides reliable service.

Setting up this type of internet is relatively simple as it does not consist of much other than a two-by-three foot satellite dish, two modems (for uploading and downloading), and coaxial cables to connect the dish to the modem. The satellite dish must face the south without obstruction, as the satellites orbiting the earth are around the equator. Of course, fixed line rental satellite television, rain and tall whats my broadband speed can have an effect on and hinder the reception of any internet signals. But with a fantastic location with clear southern skies, these problems are of the past.

Basically, it works like this. The user dials into his ISP with his modem. He clicks on a link to view a certain web page. The software from his computer attaches what is known in the technology world as the "tunneling code" to his requested site. But rather than receiving the necessary files directly from the web server of the aforementioned website, the sent request goes to the satellite service's NOC, network operations center. The NOC is located on earth. It is the NOC that calls the web page. The web server then sends the web page back to the NOC, which in turn sends the web page to a satellite. Then, functioning like a normal television satellite would, the satellite forwards all the requested data to the user's dish. The dish throws the web page to the computer through the installed satellite modem. This entire complex process usually takes about half a second, or even less.

Two-way satellite internet functions through internet protocol multicasting technology, sending data in compressed formats from one point to multiple points at the same time. The compression of data reduces the size of the data and the use of bandwidth. All together, this means such a system can provide five thousand channels of communication, working simultaneously through one single satellite.

The benefits of using the internet through satellite are certainly numerous. Faster speed equals faster streamyx reseller faster surfing speeds, faster uploading and download speeds. Also it is far more reliable, and unlike dial-up services, users do not need to worry about starting connections, which are troublesome at times. Of course, dial-up internet ties up the phone line, leading to potential missed calls, which does not occur with satellite service. Furthermore, with internet through satellite service, availability is never a problem as it is extremely accessible. It does not rely on any land lines.

Satellite internet may seem complicated to users of regular cable and DSL services, but don't be fooled. With satellite service, users have a reliable and fast way to connect themselves to the internet and the world.
